Aging is a natural process in which we are subjected to and as we get on in years and have reached the senior threshold, we should be looking forward to retiring and taking life easily as we should.

And although retirement does paint a pretty picture, the lack of engaging activities can put you at risk of dementia or memory loss. Although you cannot stop aging, the good news is that there are steps that you can take to prevent memory loss from happening.

You can start by eating a healthy diet, staying physically active, keep stress at bay, and of course, getting enough sleep.

It is also important that you keep your brain constantly active as you age so that your brain cells will remain healthy. That said, these activities are sure to help prevent memory loss on your part.

1. Crosswords

One of the best activities that you can do to help you to prevent memory loss is to do crosswords or word games.

These brain exercises will keep your mind challenged and working constantly as you will need to recall the words to complete the boxes. Word games can be downloaded into your smart phone so you can play while you are out and about.

2. Use a different route

If you are driving your own car, then why not be more adventurous and try a new route?

Using the same route day in and day out can be quite boring. Diversifying your routine will also keep your mind engaged.

3. Read a new book

Reading books is also another way to keep your brain running properly, but if you really want to give your mind a bit of a challenge, read a book on a topic that you are not completely familiar with.

The new information that your mind is absorbing can engage your brain cells to absorb and incorporate the ideas into your memory bank.

If you are planning on going on a vacation, instead of relying on apps that will guide you to your destination, why not try road maps instead?

This way, you will be using your brain to figure out where you are and where you should go, what roads to take and such, to reach your destination.
